EVENT PRESS RELEASE

Sports Radio Icon George Dunham Named First-Ever Molly H. Bogen Service Award Recipient in Honor of Agency’s Longtime Former President and CEO

On November 14, The Senior Source presented Jan and Fred Hegi with the 2016 Spirit of Generations Award during its annual luncheon, which exceeded $1 million in fundraising, a first in the event’s 23 year history. The Spirit of Generations Award is given to an individual or group of individuals who have helped build the foundation that supports our community and the bridges that connect the ages. Funds raised at the annual event are critical to The Senior Source’s operation of programs and services that assist more than 30,000 older adults annually by providing community engagement, support, independence, advocacy, financial security and protection.

“With 10,000 Americans turning 65 each day, the services our agency provides are more vital than ever,” said The Senior Source’s President and CEO Cortney M. Nicolato.  “The generosity and commitment to our community demonstrated at Spirit of Generations will help ensure our programs are assisting, protecting, and connecting older adults in greater Dallas and empowering them to thrive.”

Award recipients Jan and Fred Hegi have a long and proven history of spreading goodwill and philanthropy throughout North Texas and beyond.

A founding partner of Wingate Partners, Mr. Hegi also serves as a member of the Board of Trustees of Southern Methodist University. He is a former Chairman of Interfaith Family Services, which in 1997 established the Frederick B. Hegi, Jr. Humanitarian Award to recognize his work on behalf of this non-profit organization. Mr. Hegi is the Immediate Past Chairman of Communities Foundation of Texas and a trustee of the AT&T Center for the Performing Arts Foundation, UT Southwestern Medical Foundation, UT Southwestern Board of Visitors and the Chancellor’s Executive Council of the UT System. Last year, Mr. Hegi received the Henry Cohn Humanitarian Award from the Anti-Defamation League. Jan Hegi is a former educator and is actively involved in the Kappa Kappa Gamma Alumni Association, the SMU Alumni Association, First Presbyterian Church, the Dallas Woman’s Club and the Dallas Garden Club.  She served on and chaired the board of Interfaith Housing Coalition.  She was a co-founder of The Stewpot Alliance and currently serves as an Elder at First Presbyterian Church of Dallas. Together, the Hegis have co-chaired the SMU Annual Fund Campaign and the President’s Research Council at UT Southwestern. In 2012, Mr. and Mrs. Hegi were recognized with the Spirit of Contact Award for leadership and service to those facing life challenges and significant personal crises.

In addition to honoring the Hegis, The Senior Source presented the inaugural Molly H. Bogen Service Award to George Dunham. Mr. Dunham’s interest in the organization grew from his own experience with eldercare. The Molly H. Bogen Service Award is named after The Senior Source’s former president and CEO who led the organization for 40 years. She is recognized throughout North Texas as an advocate for elder rights and awareness.  Mr. Dunham, a popular radio personality on Sportsradio 1310 “The Ticket,” has utilized his public presence and large fan base to raise both awareness and vital funds for The Senior Source and its programs. “We are most grateful for the enthusiastic response we’ve had from the community in paying tribute to our honorees,” said luncheon chairman, Marilyn Weber. “Clearly, those  who know these outstanding individuals are aware of the great impact they’ve made in Dallas, and have deep admiration for them.” Working alongside Ms. Weber were corporate underwriting chair, Michael P. Massad, Jr. and The Senior Source board chair Kathy Helm.
