Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program
We advocate for you.
Older adults in nursing homes and assisted living facilities should live out their later years with dignity and respect in a safe environment. Long-term care ombudsmen help ensure that happens for the 16,000 residents living in Dallas County facilities.
Program staff advocate for legislative change relevant to long-term care residents and serve as a resource for seniors and their families searching for a facility.
Additionally, through our Friendly Visitor Program, we place volunteers who want to help by spending time with residents who rarely or never have visitors. You can help as a Friendly Visitor or Volunteer Ombudsman!

Frequently Asked Questions
Long-Term Care Ombudsman Services FAQs
Why use The Senior Source as my Ombudsman?
Every state is required to have a State Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program (SLTCOP) office that oversees the activities of the local Long-Term Care Ombudsman programs. Here in Texas, the SLTCOP is an independent office under the umbrella of the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) and is responsible for the training and certification of certified ombudsmen. Locally, The Senior Source is the sole, trusted agency that has been designated to provide Long-Term Care Ombudsman services for Dallas County nursing homes and assisted living facilities.
When do I reach out to my Ombudsman?
If you are a resident in a nursing home or assisted living facility, or you have a loved one living in a facility, you can reach out to the ombudsman any time that you have questions about your rights or concerns about the care that you are receiving. You can also reach out to us if you are in the process of choosing a facility for yourself or a loved one. Ombudsmen can help guide you through that process by providing information about questions to ask and things to consider as you look at facilities.
