March 10, 2025, DALLAS – On March 26, 2025, The Senior Source and Atmos Energy will once again partner to host the “Atmos Energy Bill Pay Blitz” at The Senior Source, with the goal of distributing at least $150,000 to low income seniors to help cover outstanding natural gas bills. This is the fifth year the two organizations have come together as part of Atmos Energy’s Sharing the Warmth program to support Dallas-area seniors with their gas bills.

The event will be held at The Senior Source’s office at 3901 Harry Hines Blvd in Dallas from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, March 26. Atmos Energy customers who are Dallas County or Collin County residents and are 60 or older with an annual income of less than $30,000 (individual) or $40,000 (dual household income) are eligible for the program. Please note that the Atmos Energy residential customer bill must be in the applicant’s name. No registration is required, and funds are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

According to a 2023 study by Harvard University, more than 765,000 Texans over the age of 65 utilize at least 30% of their income for housing, a problem expected to persist as baby boomers age. This leaves limited funds to cover healthcare costs, utility bills, food and other critical expenses.

“Currently The Senior Source is averaging more than 100 calls per day from Dallas area seniors looking for help with their winter utility bills. According to a 2023 report from the City of Dallas Senior Affairs Commission, 30,000 Dallas seniors over the age of 60 are living on a monthly income of $1,000 or less. For these residents, when any bill increases, even a small amount, there is often no safety net to cover the additional cost,” said The Senior Source Intake Director Shannon Miller.

According to Atmos Energy Manager of Public Affairs Nira McNealy, “We are proud to partner with Senior Source to help our communities stay warm during the winter months. At Atmos Energy, we are committed to fueling safe and thriving communities, providing financial assistance to our neighbors in need through our Sharing the Warmth program.”

Tommie Thompson, a Dallas senior who attended the Atmos Bill Pay Blitz in 2024, shared how much the event helped her. “After the freeze [in February], my bill jumped up to over $200. When you’re used to something between $73 and $93, getting [a bill] over $200 is a shock. And when you’re on a fixed income, those types of things impact you, really. It was just a blessing to even see this, that they were doing this. I am grateful.”

Atmos Energy representatives will also be on site to distribute free weatherization kits with items that can help decrease home energy costs, including weather stripping and caulk, a 60-watt LED bulb, and water-saving devices.

The Comprehensive Energy Assistance Program (CEAP) helps qualifying Dallas County residents with low income with their electric and gas bills, increasing energy efficiency and keeping homes comfortable for seniors on an ongoing basis. The Senior Source hosts an open help session every Monday from 10 a.m. to noon at its office to help older adults navigate the enrollment process. No advance registration is required.
